General Nursing Program

The General Nursing Program offers rotations at the following sites:

Graduates may complete rotations in any of the following clinical areas:

  • Acute medical
  • Acute surgical
  • Cardiology / Cardiothoracics / Cardiac Specialties
  • Diagnostic Imaging / Outpatients / Day Treatment Centre / Clinical Trials / Medical Infusion Unit / Immediate Recovery Centre
  • Emergency
  • Gastrosciences
  • Haemodialysis
  • Neurosciences / Neurosurgery
  • Oncology / Haematology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Paediatrics and Newborn Services
  • Palliative Care
  • Perioperative / Endoscopy / Day Procedure Unit / Day Surgery Unit
  • Renal / Nephrology
  • Residential Aged Care
  • Respiratory
  • Subacute and rehabilitation

Please note, not all specialties are available at each site.

Paediatric and Neonatal Nursing Program

Graduates may rotate to paediatric and neonatal areas and specialties within the Monash Children’s Hospital, Dandenong Hospital or Casey Hospital during their program. Areas include:

  • Paediatric surgical
  • Paediatric medical
  • Paediatric oncology and haematology
  • Paediatric theatres
  • Special care nursery (SCN)
  • Neonatal intensive care (NICU)
  • Adolescent inpatients
  • Paediatric day surgical unit
  • Children’s Cancer Centre (Day Oncology)

Residential Aged Care and Subacute Nursing Program

The RACs and Subacute Program offers rotations at the following sites:

  • Boollam Boollam (Heatherton) – New state of the art facility
  • Casey Hospital (Berwick)
  • Chestnut Gardens Avenue Aged Care (Doveton)
  • Chestnut Gardens Boulevard Aged Care (Doveton)
  • Kingston Centre (Heatherton)

Mental Health Nursing Program

Graduates may rotate to Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Kingston Centre, Monash Children’s Hospital, Monash Medical Centre or Community sites.

Mental Health Nursing clinical areas include:

  • Acute Inpatient Mental Health
  • Rehabilitation (Inpatient or Community)
  • Early in Life Mental Health
  • Older Adult’s Mental Health

Midwifery and Double Degree Programs

Graduates are allocated to site-based Midwifery teams and complete two birth suite and two post/antenatal rotations. For Double Degree Graduates, one post/antenatal rotation is replaced with an acute nursing rotation within a wide range of acute clinical areas including Newborn, Acute Surgical or Cardiac.

Site options include:

  • Monash Medical Centre Clayton / Jessie McPherson Private Hospital (tertiary maternity service)
  • Dandenong Hospital (primary and secondary maternity service)
  • Casey Hospital (primary and secondary maternity service)
