Contact tracing team winning the COVID-19 battle

Earlier this week, Professor Rhonda Stuart, Head of Infectious Diseases and Prevention at Monash Health and Director of the South East Public Health Unit, spoke with The Age about Victoria’s transformed contact tracing system. 

The South East Public Health Unit responds to the spread of COVID-19 in the south-east suburbs of Melbourne and along the Peninsula. 

The newly established team of contact tracers have only been working together for six months and are bringing a calm and systematic approach to help track and contain the spread of COVID-19 across our region.  

The new system allows the team to match people to places and times with positive cases and contacts in the system. 

As well as contact tracing, the Local Public Health Unit is responsible for testing, vaccination, community engagement and communication. 

“I am extremely proud of how far the team has come in the past six months. It is amazing to see how the team is working together and tackling this head-on,” said Professor Rhonda Stuart.
