Audiology

Monash Health Audiology provides comprehensive hearing assessments and diagnostic services for patients of all ages. Our Audiologists hold tertiary qualifications, maintain professional accreditation through Audiology Australia, and adhere to strict quality‑assurance and peer‑review standards.

No out‑of‑pocket fees apply for patients with a valid Medicare card.

If the patient is an overseas visitor and is not eligible for Medicare, a fee will be applied. Following the assessment, an invoice will be issued and forwarded to the patient.

Interpreter services are available.

  • Auditory Evoked Potentials (ABR, ASSR)
  • Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
  • Educational Audiology (ages 7+)
  • Pre‑employment and industrial hearing tests

  • Self‑funded hearing aids
  • Bone conduction devices (with ENT)
  • Cochlear implants (with ENT/complex otology)
  • Assistive listening devices
  • Ear plugs: swimmer’s, noise, musician plugs

How to Refer

Internal Referrals

All Monash Health staff can refer.

Outpatients:

  • Submit referral via SMR
  • Specialty Unit: Audiology (Shaani Graves)
  • Site: All sites

Inpatients:

  • Place EMR Order
  • Referral to Audiology (Initial)

Include relevant medical or developmental details.

External Referrals

All external referrals accepted, including self‑referrals.

  • Doctors: Use Monash Health eReferral via HealthLink.
  • Other health professionals: Email referral to audiology@monashhealth.org
  • Self‑referral via email with the following:
    • Patient full name
    • Date of birth
    • Address
    • Reason for referral
    • Relevant medical/developmental information

Services not offered

  • Vestibular testing
  • Electrocochleography (ECoG)
  • Government‑subsidised adult hearing aids
  • Hearing aids for patients under 26 (refer to Hearing Australia)
  • Repairs for hearing aids not originally purchased at Monash Health
