About Public Affairs and Communication

The Public Affairs and Communication (PAC) team is responsible for all media engagement across all Monash Health campuses. The PAC team is the first point of contact for all internal and external media enquiries relating to patients, spokespeople, employees, research, events and programs.

The PAC team can assist media in a number of ways, including:

  • Providing patient condition reports
  • Coordinating on-campus filming and photography
  • Suggesting experts and spokespeople for media stories
  • Approaching patients to seek involvement in media stories.

Patient condition reports

Patient condition reports can be requested from the PAC team who will then check with the patient’s clinical team to determine whether it is appropriate to issue an update to media.

If issuing a condition report is deemed clinically appropriate, the PAC team can then advise media whether the patient is in a stable, serious or critical condition. For privacy reasons, the PAC team cannot confirm any further patient details, e.g. name, age, diagnosis, etc.

The PAC team will not interrupt clinicians to obtain a condition report if they are busy treating patients – providing excellent patient care is the top priority for our medical and nursing teams. Please be assured that the PAC team will respond to your query as soon as possible.

Media visiting Monash Health campuses

All media visits to any Monash Health campus must be authorised and coordinated by at least one member of the PAC team. Media will be accompanied by a PAC team member for the entire visit. This is to ensure patients, visitors and employees are not disturbed and that only those who consent to be interviewed, photographed and/or filmed are included in the content.

Media visiting Monash Health campuses are expected to follow quality, safety, hygiene and privacy policies. The PAC team can advise on these matters.

Media filming or photographing outside Monash Health campuses are only allowed to do so from a public area, i.e. a footpath exterior to the campus. Media must also ensure that patients, visitors and employees entering and exiting the campus are not able to be identified in any footage or photographs captured.

External groups visiting Monash Health campuses

Similarly to media visits, any external groups such as sporting clubs, performers and fundraising groups must be authorised and supervised by the PAC team. Should these external groups wish to invite media to attend an authorised visit (including their own internal communications, photography and/or social media teams), approval must be granted by PAC prior to the visit.

The PAC team supports several Monash Health websites, including MonashHealth.org. If you have feedback regarding Monash Health’s websites, contact communication@monashhealth.org. In your message, please include the website address or URL, and the team will reply as soon as possible.
