Redevelopment announced for Dandenong Hospital

Today, our CEO Prof Eugine Yafele and Board Chair Michael Gorton AM, welcomed the new Minister for Health, the Hon. Harriet Shing MLC and the Minister for Health Infrastructure, the Hon. Melissa Horne MP to Dandenong Hospital, where they announced a $305 million redevelopment.
‘This redevelopment marks a significant investment in the health and wellbeing of the Dandenong community. With our local area being one of the most culturally diverse in Victoria, this project will ensure we can provide world-leading care, tailored to the unique needs of our patients,’ Prof Yafele said.

The redevelopment will provide nine brand new operating theatres, a modern Intensive Care Unit with 16 beds, as well as an enhanced day surgery admissions area. These upgrades are a significant step forward for Dandenong Hospital, which has served the community for decades.

Once complete, this project will enable Monash Health to expand bed capacity, offering improved and more timely surgical care for locals, right on their doorstep.

The group was joined by the Hon. Gabrielle Williams MP, Member for Dandenong; Lee Tarlamis MLC, Member for the South-Eastern Metropolitan region; Belinda Wilson MP, Member for Narre Warren North; Eden Foster MP, Member for Mulgrave; and Meng Heang Tak MP, Member for Clarinda.

Originally known as the Dandenong and District Hospital, the facility was built during World War II and opened its doors to patients 84 years ago (April 1942). It became part of the Southern Health network in 1995 and is now one of the busiest hospitals in Victoria.
