Monash Health ranked in top 50 of the world’s best specialised hospitals
Monash Health has ranked in the top 50 of Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialised Hospitals 2021 list.
Ranking at number 45, Monash Health’s cardiology program, Monash Heart, is one of only two services in Australia to appear in the top 50 of the Newsweek list, which ranks hospitals specialising in cardiology, oncology and endocrinology, in partnership with Statista Inc., a global market research and consumer data firm.
Professor Stephen Nicholls, Director of Monash Heart, described the ranking as an incredible achievement.
“This announcement is a wonderful reflection of all the great contributions made by our talented team,” said Professor Nicholls.
“We’re excited to use this momentum as a springboard as we build the Victorian Heart Hospital.”
The Victorian Heart Hospital will be Australia’s first dedicated heart hospital and is due to be completed in 2022, as a $564 million project delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government and Monash University. When fully developed and at maximum capacity, the Victorian Heart Hospital is expected to deliver 100,000 cardiac consultations every year.
The Monash Heart program continues to be recognised for its outstanding care and research, having recently begun a world-first trial of a new implantable heart monitor being used to remotely manage patients with Atrial Fibrillation, the Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre was recognised earlier this year at an international cardiology conference in Seattle, and the program is now leading a trial to determine how to use genetic testing to prevent heart attacks.
