The most exciting part of Donna Hogan’s job is seeing lots of different faces every single day.
“Sometimes I hear people talking about how nice, fresh and clean the building is, and that makes me feel good,” she said.
Donna is an Environmental Services Assistant at the Victorian Heart Hospital responsible for cleaning the main entrance and the MRI room.
“I’m cleaning high touch areas, mopping, wiping, changing bins,” Donna said.
“In the MRI room, you have to ensure you take off your keys, phones, watches etc as these can become a potential hazard and possibly harm yourself or others.”Donna has been an Environmental Services Assistant at the Victorian Heart Hospital from the day it opened.Today is Thank Your Cleaner Day, and we couldn’t be prouder or more grateful for the significant and important work our cleaning teams do to ensure we can provide safe, accessible healthcare to our community.
For Donna, seeing the Victorian Heart Hospital – which opened in February this year – take shape has been a highlight of her newly established role.
“We’re seeing the changes before our eyes,” she said.
“When we first started there wasn’t a café yet, it was a section cut out in the hospital floor, and we’ve been able to see that being built up.”Seeing both new and familiar faces is the highlight of Donna’s day.A self-proclaimed “neat freak”, Donna said a clean space is important both physically and mentally.
“When you’ve got a clean space, you can think better,” she said.
“By keeping the environment clean, we also help make sure patients don’t get sicker.”
This Thank Your Cleaner Day, don’t forget to take a moment to thank the cleaners in your life for the significant role they play in ensuring safety and hygiene daily.
“When someone stops me and says thank you for what you do, it’s a really nice surprise, because you don’t expect it,” Donna said.
