COVID-19 testing milestone reached at Monash Health
The Monash Health Pathology team have now processed more than 450,000 COVID-19 tests since the beginning of the pandemic.
Testing began at Monash Health in March 2020 after the first cases of community transmission were recorded in Australia and our first testing clinic for COVID-19 was established in Clayton.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work of our Pathology team, we’ve had to make considerable changes during the pandemic to scale up our COVID-19 testing,” said Kristy De George, Monash Health Pathology General Manager.
Monash Health Pathology has completed more COVID-19 testing than any other public pathology service in the state.
Over the past 18 months, the dedicated team have worked to establish a process that enables 24/7 testing of COVID-19 swabs. This included commissioning two new Panther Fusion analysers which came online in February 2021 to increase Monash Health’s testing capacity.
“During the pandemic we have had to continue to manage all of our ongoing work, and the addition of COVID-19 testing. Everyone has stepped up to provide solutions that meant we can continue providing an exceptional service throughout,” Prof Beena Kumar, Monash Health Pathology Program Director, said.
