Celebrating International Day of People with Disability

Today we celebrate International Day of People with Disability, raising awareness, understanding and acceptance of the around 4.4 million people living with disability in Australia.

While today is the formal date of recognition, every day at Monash Health hospitals and facilities we are actively working to break down barriers for people with disability, providing more inclusive and respectful healthcare, as well as employment.

Our approach is guided by our Disability Strategy and Action Plan 2023 – 2027, which can be read here: https://monashhealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/MH_DisabilityActionPlan2023-27_A4_Digital_FA02.pdf

For International Day of People with Disability, Monash Health hosted a special event for team members across our health service and welcomed Dr Dinish Palipana OAM to speak.

Dr Palipana generously shared his lived experience of being an emergency doctor at the busy Gold Coast University Hospital and quadriplegic, providing valuable insights of how we can all create more equitable healthcare and employment access for people with disabilities.
