Monash Health’s 2022-23 Annual Report has been tabled in the Victorian Parliament.
The report outlines our role and our achievements as a health service in the Financial Year 2022 to 2023. The highlights include our commitment to excellence that is integrated in our care for patients, the work of our people, the community we serve as well as our pioneering research and academic endeavours.
In February, we opened the new Victorian Heart Hospital which stands as a proud example of the culmination of many years of planning and hard work. Annually, the Victorian Heart Hospital will provide 28,000 cardiac emergency patient assessments, 10,000 interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures, and 2,000 open heart surgeries. The Community Open Day on 19 February was an incredibly joyful occasion and drew an overwhelming turnout of 2,800 people.
“We can look to the future reinvigorated with hope and optimism through our people, programs and partnerships,” writes Interim Chief Executive Martin Keogh in his opening message of the report.
“Together, we stand on the cusp of a new era in healthcare, proud of our achievements and inspired by the endless possibilities that lie ahead.”
Other highlights include:
- As Victoria’s largest maternity care provider, we began providing maternity, newborn and gynaecology services at Sandringham Hospital. We can support over 10,000 women annually to give birth across our sites.
- This year, we welcomed 834 new junior medical staff (JMS) and 791 graduate nurses, midwives and mental health registered nurses. The overall retention rate of junior medical staff has risen to 63% in 2022-23, up from 60% in 2021-22.
- Our International Medical Graduates now comprise 30% of our total workforce, up from 27%. We saw 88% of our JMS rate the quality of their clinical supervision as good or excellent, and an impressive 78% feel we have a positive workplace culture.
- We reaffirmed our research focus, with 715 new research projects submitted for approval, increasing active research projects to 1,757, up from 1,664 in FY2021-22.
“The achievements of the year, big or small, are a testament to the resilience shown by our people, and we could not be prouder of them,” said Martin Keogh.
“Much more than a workforce, they are a force to be reckoned with, a force for good and continue to show tremendous compassion, leadership and dedication to provide the highest healthcare standards.”
