Program details

Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH), part of Monash Health, is one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated children’s health services, with more than 30 specialist services and programs.

Our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a state of the art 10-bed unit, with a complex patient mix. It provides 24/7 care for critically ill children from babies to adolescents. Our PICU is one of only two tertiary paediatric intensive care units in Victoria, and is staffed by highly trained doctors and nurses who specialise in intensive care to ensure the best possible outcomes for all children and their families.

The PICU at MCH supports the University of Melbourne’s Graduate Certificate in Nursing Practice (Paediatric Intensive Care). The aim of this post-graduate certificate is to help you broaden your clinical knowledge, enhance your clinical decision-making skills and become a confident member of the multidisciplinary paediatric intensive care team. You will apply this knowledge to clinical practice, using a child and family-centred approach. Focus areas include advanced ventilation, renal replacement therapy and the care of the child with a traumatic brain injury.

The post graduate certificate is 12 months in duration and part time.  University study days are supported by PICU education staff to ensure content delivered is complemented with the specific requirements of MCH PICU.

There are several scholarships available through Monash Health and the ANMF for students enrolled in the University of Melbourne’s Graduate Certificate in Nursing Practice (Paediatric Intensive Care).
