Our areas of Physiotherapy practice

Acute hospital-based care

Physiotherapists at Monash Health working in acute hospital-based care, support patients in the hospital setting across Monash Health campuses. 

This work includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Comprehensive patient assessment, treatment and discharge planning
  • Working in the Emergency Department (ED) 
  • Working in the Intensive Care Unit 
  • Ward-based care 
  • Advanced practice clinics roles including: 
    • Advanced Musculoskeletal Practice in ED (AMP) 
    • Back and neck clinic 
    • Shoulder clinic 
    • OAHKS 
    • Pelvic Health 
  • Planning patient discharges across various area including: 
    • General medicine 
    • Critical Care and Surgery 
    • Neurology 
    • Orthopaedics 
    • Oncology 

Sub-acute hospital based care

Monash Health’s physiotherapists working in subacute hospital-based care, work with patients of varying ages and medical conditions at Casey and Kingston campuses. 

This work includes but is not limited to:  

  • Working with patients across subacute wards to provide care that suits their individual needs 
  • General rehabilitation 
  • Neurology 
  • Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedics 
  • Movement Disorders program  
  • Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) 
  • Aquatic physiotherapy.

Care in the community

Various roles are offered for Monash Health physiotherapists in the community, this includes at our sites in Cranbourne, Pakenham, Springvale and Kingston, in clients’ homes and at other community venues. 

This work includes, but is not limited to:  

  • Working within Monash Health specialist clinics including:  
    • Continence service 
    • Pain management clinic 
    • Movement disorders clinic 
    • Falls and balance clinic 
  • Community rehabilitation  
  • Community health service  
  • Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) at home.

Children's

There are many opportunities at Monash Children’s Hospital for physiotherapists who work with children. 

This work includes but is not limited to:  

  • Providing acute care within various areas including:  
    • Neonatal care 
    • Intensive care 
    • General medicine 
    • Neurology 
    • Orthopaedics 
    • Oncology
  • Outpatient clinic roles including Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (AMP) clinics, such as: 
    • Hip Dysplasia clinic  
    • Club Foot clinic
  • Working with children in Monash Health’s Child and Family multidisciplinary GAIT clinic.
