The Urology Perioperative Liaison Nurse Team exemplifies collaboration, adaptability and patient-centred care.

To respond to increasing demand, they implemented structured weekly case review meetings to prioritise patients effectively. This streamlined pre-admission workflows and introduced a proactive engagement process to ensure patient’s readiness for surgery.

Amy Goeman, Perioperative and Elective Services Manager, said the team works closely together to manage the significant urology waitlist.

‘They manage a highly challenging waitlist with resilience and a strong focus on patient-centred care.’

They also played a critical role in preparing and embedding robotic-assisted urological surgery into practice. The successful integration of robotic surgery strengthens the service’s future capability and demonstrates how innovation can be implemented without compromising care standards.

‘This technology has allowed us to treat a whole different cohort of patients and introduce procedures we haven’t previously been able to complete at Monash Health. It also allows us to significantly improve patients’ length of stay in hospital.’

‘The introduction of new technology is always challenging. The team went above and beyond, working with key stakeholders to assist in the rollout,’ Amy added.

The team foster a supportive culture by mentoring one another, balancing workload, and maintaining morale despite increased complexity of care delivery.

‘They work hard, communicate well and do the job exceptionally well.’

With their collective effort the team has delivered measurable improvements in urgent patient access and operational efficiency, while modernising service capability.

Congratulations to all our 2026 NAMAS award winners and nominees.
