Dr Ranjana Srivastava
OAM FRACP
Dr Ranjana Srivastava, OAM, FRACP, is an internationally recognised medical oncologist, Fulbright scholar, award-winning author, and communicator. Her special interest lies in geriatric oncology, championing the needs and preferences of elderly cancer patients, ensuring they receive holistic care in accordance with their stated preferences. Dr. Srivastava is also a staunch advocate for ensuring healthcare access for culturally and linguistically diverse, vulnerable and marginalised patients.
Graduating from Monash University with first-class honours, Dr Srivastava undertook her postgraduate training in Melbourne before winning a Fulbright award to study medical ethics and doctor-patient communication at the University of Chicago. She has since carved a distinguished career as a public intellectual, winning numerous awards for her contributions as a writer and advocate for the art of medicine, including the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her services to communication in medicine and the Kennedy Award for Outstanding Columnist of the Year.
Dr Srivastava has authored seven books, is a frequent contributor to the New England Journal of Medicine and The Guardian, and her widely-cited work on doctor-patient communication has influenced policy and practice worldwide. She serves as a Professor of Practice at Monash University and is an invited faculty member at the University of Chicago and Harvard University, sharing her expertise in the art of medicine and the discipline of writing for the public.
