Dr Emma Leitinger
Dr Emma Leitinger is a clinical and laboratory haematologist and clinical lead of the Anticoagulation Stewardship Service at Monash Health. She graduated with First Class Honours in Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 2011 and completed advanced training in both clinical and laboratory haematology through Austin Health, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. She was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2021 and subsequently completed a two-year Haemostasis and Thrombosis Fellowship at Monash Health.
Her research interests focus on thrombosis and haemostasis, anticoagulation stewardship, and laboratory haematology. She is currently undertaking a PhD at Monash University investigating anticoagulants and their monitoring in clinical practice, supported by multiple competitive grants including the CSL Behring Professor Heimburger Award, Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand (THANZ) Research Grant, and Monash Health and Monash University research support. Dr Leitinger has received international recognition for her work in anticoagulation stewardship, including the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) Early Career Researcher Award in 2024 and 2026 for research on innovative approaches to improving anticoagulant safety. She has acted as an expert advisor to groups such as Safer Care Victoria, and is actively involved in medical education through Monash University and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).
