Monash Rheumatology is the largest Rheumatology Department in Australia. We provide rheumatology care to a population of over 1.3 million.
Our unit aims to provide the highest standard of evidence‐based care to patients with inflammatory, musculoskeletal, and autoimmune disorders. We believe that safe patient‐centred care leads to the best possible outcomes for patients within our community.
Key leadership areas in clinical care and research include:
- Fibromyalgia
- Psoriatic arthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Scleroderma
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
- Vasculitis
The unit is actively involved in teaching, with substantial involvement of undergraduate medical students through Monash University. There are three rheumatology accredited core advanced trainees, plus additional rheumatology fellows and PhD candidates.
The unit has an international reputation for excellence in clinical research and is actively involved in clinical trials. Collaborations include Monash leadership of the Australian Lupus Registry and Biobank and the Asia-Pacific Lupus Collaboration, and membership of the Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study.
Through our partnership with Monash University, we also have strong basic science and translational research programmes embedded within the state-of-the-art Monash Health Translational Research facility. Close integration of basic and clinical research is a feature of who we are and how we work.
