Gender Clinic

The Monash Health Gender Clinic is the specialist public health service for the Trans, Gender Diverse and Non-Binary community in Victoria.

The Gender Clinic is a state-wide service that provides individualised, consumer centred care for the trans, gender diverse and non-binary people, their families and partners. Our principle aim is to improve the health outcomes and wellbeing of all our consumers.  We accept all referrals for individuals who are aged 17 and above and reside in the state of Victoria. We also provide support and information for health care providers as well as community and advocacy groups. Our Consumer Advisory Panel is regularly involved in decision making about how to improve our services.

Important information

Updated 19/11/2021

The Gender Clinic currently has a long wait list: in November 2021, we are booking appointments for clients whose referrals were received in August 2020.

Gender Clinic staff are working both offsite and onsite. While telehealth is the Monash preference,  we can offer face to face appointments when the clinician deems this is necessary. If you have an upcoming appointment, please contact our admin team to advise them if you would prefer a face to face appointment otherwise we will assume that the appointment is to be held via telehealth.

For gender affirming surgeries, Mr Andrew Ives and Mr Cheng have very long wait lists at present for new clients. However they are both continuing to perform gender affirming surgeries.  Please contact them directly if you need further information.

If you urgently need support, please see our resources lists: Trans, Gender Diverse and Non-Binary Peer Support GroupsClinical Support. In particular Switchboard Victoria run two phone contact lines open every day: Rainbow Door 10am-5pm (https://www.rainbowdoor.org.au/ 1800 729 367); and QLife (QLife.org.au 1800 184 527) 3pm-midnight. Lifeline (Lifeline Australia 13 11 14) provide all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

In August 2020, the Gender Clinic commenced operating as a Specialist Clinic. Referrals from a health professional can now be submitted through our centralised process by completing the GP referral template available at https://monashhealth.org/health-professionals/referrals/referral-templates-and-guides/ and faxing this to (03) 9594 2273. Please include your patient’s email address where possible and advise your patient to contact us by email if they have not heard from us within 1 month.

Alternatively, if your practice is HealthLink enabled, you can make an e-referral: instructions are available at https://monashhealth.org/health-professionals/referrals/gp-ereferrals/.
