Start a referral

Monash Health only accepts external referrals for specialist care through HealthLink.

Submit or update a referral to a Monash Health specialist clinic through your practice software with HealthLink integration or through the HealthLink portal below.

A single pathway for referrers

Previously, there were many pathways for referrals, including fax, email, post and electronically via HealthLink. This created significant risk for referral processing, particularly the risk of lost referrals. Moving to a single referral pathway has enabled efficiencies and a faster referral-to-triage time.

Support for GPs using HealthLink

If you have trouble submitting a referral via HealthLink, please visit the Help and Support page on the HealthLink website.

My practice software is not integrated with HealthLink

If you do not use Medical Director, Best Practice, Genie or MedTech Evolution with HealthLink integration, the MyHealthLink portal is available for GPs and specialists to submit referrals securely.

The MyHealthLink portal does not pre-populate information, so it must be entered manually. The portal allows you to attach documents (including your usual referral letter) from your desktop and paste notes from your clinical information system.

How to amend a referral

Use the HealthLink SmartForm and select the option ‘Amended referral/update previously sent referral’ in the section Referral Continuation.

Why we can’t reply to GPs through HealthLink

Currently, the system configuration does not allow Monash Health to use HealthLink to communicate the outcome of referrals to GPs. Instead, referring GPs will receive a letter notifying the outcome of a referral.

We appreciate this may be frustrating for GPs, and we continue to explore functionality to enable more efficient and timely communication.
