Occupational Therapy Driver Program

This program provides specialist occupational therapy driving assessments for clients with any physical, psychiatric, Neurological, Cognitive, Congenital, or Age Related impairments to determine safety to continue or resume driving with or without modifications.

Services

  • Comprehensive off-road assessment utilising the OT-DORA (Occupational Therapy Driver Off Road Assessment Battery)
  • On-road as determined by client and off-road assessment results
  • Lessons and follow up as necessary
  • SWEP- VMSS (State-wide Equipment Program – Vehicle Modification Subsidy Scheme) applications for driver modifications

Cost

  • Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment $230 ($100 Occupational Therapy component, $130 Driver instructor component). This is inclusive of off road and on road assessments.
  • Lessons: if required are $130 per hour from client’s home. A payment plan can be arranged with the finance office if required for the Occupational Therapy component.
  • NDIS, WORKCOVER AND TAC CLIENTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SERVICE

Eligibility Criteria

Occupational Therapy Driving Assessments are available to driver license holders or applicants (e.g. Learner drivers) who have a longstanding (greater than 3 months) disability or illness which may impact upon safe driving skills.

  • Over 65 years of age: Clients living in Greater Dandenong, Cardinia, Casey, Kingston, Bayside and Glen Eira council regions and eligible for Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) via My Age Care referral (Referrals for clients accessing home care packages are accepted if they have a CHSP referral code).
  • Under 65 years of age: Clients living in Greater Dandenong, Cardinia and Casey council regions who are eligible for Home and Community Care (HACC) and not able to receive driver assessment via NDIS, TAC or Workcover.
  • Please make sure Vic Roads Medical Report is completed prior to referral.
