Tegan Leigh

Tegan is the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Nurse Consultant, and the Haematology- Wellness and Survivorship Nurse Consultant.

Tegan works with patients age 15-25 with any cancer across the whole of the organisation, including Monash Children’s Hospital.

The AYA Cancer service commenced in 2023, and is steadily growing in service delivery and capacity. The service focuses on providing care for a number of domains, including:

  • Care coordination
  • Patient and Family Centred Care
  • Nurse led clinics for AYA Cancer Needs assessments
  • Support for Psychological needs
  • Support for all social needs, including educational, vocational, practical and financial
  • Providing AYA’s and their carers with age-appropriate information and education
  • Facilitating transition for patients as they turn 18 and move into adult care
  • Providing support to patients as they navigate discharge from Monash Health to regional shared care partners or to GP follow up.
  • Service improvement to provide dedicated AYA resources for AYA cancer patients at Monash Health
  • Survivorship Screening and support

As a Survivorship Nurse, Tegan also provides holistic support and care to patients after their cancer treatment for a Haematological cancer. Providing general advice, care and support regarding living well after cancer and cancer therapies.

Dedicated care plans, with individualised advice, are provided to all referred patients. These care plans are also sent to patients GP’s to aid with general health care.

All care is provided in collaboration with Haematology and AYA Cancer specialist and Clinical Lead – Dr. Pasquale Fedele.
