Dr Briony Shaw

Dr Briony Shaw is a clinical and laboratory haematologist at Monash Health and a PhD candidate at Monash University. She has been working at Monash Health since 2014 and obtained her fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) in 2021 and a Clinical Diploma of Palliative Medicine in 2022.

Dr Shaw has a particular passion for managing elderly patients with haematological malignancy and improving supportive care in haematology patients. This includes considering the whole patient, their social situation, family, quality of life and their individual goals alongside their blood cancer treatment. Her PhD is focused on supportive care and transfusion in patients with haematological malignancy, including piloting a program to obtain the knowledge required to safely give blood transfusions to patients in their own homes. She maintains her interest in laboratory haematology through her ongoing work with the local doctors and scientists in Timor Leste establishing much needed haematology education and diagnostic services in this country.
