The Monash IBD unit is involved in scientific research, including in collaboration with teams at the Monash Health Translational Precinct (MHTP).
Major areas of research interest include:
- Understanding the role of a novel anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL37) in the development of IBD, and working on developing a protocol for regulatory T cell expansion for the purposes of cell-based therapy for IBD. (Dr Rimma Goldberg)
- Stem cells for perianal fistula (they are human amnion derived epithelial stem cells) (Dr Charlotte Keung, A/Prof Gregory Moore)
- Role of a novel anti inflammatory cytokine IL38 in IBD (Dr Manjeet Sandhu, A/Prof Gregory Moore)
- Immune development in babies who have been exposed to immunomodulators and biologics (Dr Ralley Prentice, A/Prof Sally Bell & Dr Rimma Goldberg)
