IBD Basic Science Research

The Monash IBD unit is involved in scientific research, including in collaboration with teams at the Monash Health Translational Precinct (MHTP).

Major areas of research interest include:

  • Understanding the role of a novel anti-inflammatory cytokine (IL37) in the development of IBD, and working on developing a protocol for regulatory T cell expansion for the purposes of cell-based therapy for IBD. (Dr Rimma Goldberg)
  • Stem cells for perianal fistula (they are human amnion derived epithelial stem cells) (Dr Charlotte Keung, A/Prof Gregory Moore)
  • Role of a novel anti inflammatory cytokine IL38 in IBD (Dr Manjeet Sandhu, A/Prof Gregory Moore)
  • Immune development in babies who have been exposed to immunomodulators and biologics (Dr Ralley Prentice, A/Prof Sally Bell & Dr Rimma Goldberg)
