Monash Health’s Neonatal nurse wins award at European Academy of Paediatrics Societies Congress
Monash Health’s Newborn Neonatal Nurse, Anna Kidman, was awarded “Best Oral Presentation- Nursing” for her presentation titled “Preventing extubation failure in preterm infants with non-invasive respiratory support” at the annual European Academy of Paediatrics Societies Congress on 16 October.
Anna is currently undertaking a PhD in neonatal respiratory support, which focuses on an Extubation CPAP Level Assessment trial running in Monash Health’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in partnership with the Royal Women’s Hospital. The clinical trial is investigating the most effective non-invasive support to prevent extubation failure in extremely preterm infants.
“Caring for extremely preterm infants is a privilege, and I am continuously excited to showcase neonatal care and research. I am very humbled to be recognised on such a large stage, and this award should, of course, be shared with my supervisors, the broader Monash Newborn team, and of course, the babies,” Anna said.
This is just one of many awards and scholarships that Anna has received while undertaking her PhD and is a testament to her keen interest in clinical trials.

Anna’s research will impact the way we care for our vulnerable babies in the future, and I am sure there will more successes in her nursing and academic future,” said Dr Risha Bhatia, Deputy Director of Monash Newborn.
