Monash Health Imaging wins at the RANZCR Victorian Trainee Research night

First-year Radiology registrar, Reuben Sum, has taken out the award for best research project at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists Victorian Trainee Research night. The Monash Health Imaging team presented four research projects at the research night.

Reuben’s study focused on the effectiveness of Gelfoam slurry in reducing the incidence of significant pneumothorax post lung biopsy. This included an analysis of all CT lung biopsies conducted at Monash Health over a 10-year period, from 2009 to 2019. The study concluded that Gelfoam decreased the risk of immediate, but not delayed, pneumothorax.  Other presentations from the Monash Health Imaging team included:

• ‘Removal of central venous catheter following prolonged, inadvertent brachiocephalic artery cannulation’ by Matthew Brain and Ken Lau.
• ‘A retrospective analysis of malignancy risk in thyroid nodules greater than 4cm stratified by ACR-TIRADS score’ by Michael Paks and Dee Nandurkar.
• ‘Paediatric reversible vasoconstriction syndrome – case report and literature review’ by Nicholas Karsz and Lee Anne Slater.
