Monash Health employees recognised in the King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List

Congratulations to the Monash Health employees and Board members who were recognised in the King’s Birthday 2023 Honours List.

This honour recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement, and we are proud that five current Monash Health team members have been recognised for their contributions and significant impacts at local, national and international levels.

Officer (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

Professor Erica Wood AO

Professor Erica Wood AO has been awarded Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia for “distinguished service to transfusion medicine and hemovigilance, to haematology, and to national and international organisations”.

Professor Wood is a consultant haematologist at Monash Health and is Head of the Transfusion Research Unit, and Co-Director of the Division of Acute and Critical Care, in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University.

Professor Wood said she was honoured to be recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

“I’ve been really privileged to work with many great teams in transfusion practice and research over the years, and this award is due in large part to the support I’ve received from so many people, including my fantastic colleagues at Monash Health.”

Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

Jane Bell AM

Jane Bell AM, Monash Health’s Deputy Chair, was appointed Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for “significant service to governance in the medical research, healthcare, and not-for-profit sectors”.

Dr John McKay AM

Dr Mckay said, “This honour means a lot to me and my family; it is humbling and unexpected. Along this journey, I have had lots of help from Nuclear Medicine Technologists, physicists, chemists, pharmacists, colleagues and medical and non-medical administrators, all of whom I thank for their enthusiasm and willingness to help.”
