With over 130 languages spoken in Monash Health’s catchment area, our interpreter service plays an important role in patient care.
When receiving care our patients need to understand and be understood.
A new video shared on our social media highlights the role of the Language Services team at our health service and how community members can access interpreters for free.
We have a team of 70 in-house interpreters covering 29 languages and dialects including, Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, Cantonese, Croatian, Dari, Farsi, Greek, Hakka Chinese, Hazaragi, Hindi, Italian, Khmer, Korean, Malay, Mandarin, Pashto, Serbian, Shanghainese, Sichuanese, Sinhalese, Spanish, Russian, Tamil, Teo Chew, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese.
Our interpreters are accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters.
As professionals, they provide independent, unbiased, confidential, complete and accurate interpreting for patients and clinicians.
For languages not covered by our team, we use interpreters from external agencies.
Interpreters are available at our hospitals and for telehealth appointments.
