Clinician-scientist awarded Michael Friedlander AM 2025 Award for ovarian cancer research

Dr Gwo-Yaw Ho, a clinician-scientist at Monash Health and the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, has been awarded the 2025 Michael Friedlander AM Award by the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG).

This prestigious award, recognising an early-career researcher who has significantly advanced the field of gynaecological cancer, was announced on 6 March 2025 during the ANZGOG Annual Scientific Meeting Conference Dinner, held at the National Gallery of Australia.

Dr Ho was honoured for his exceptional contributions to translational ovarian cancer research, particularly his leadership in precision immunotherapy, investigator-led clinical trials, and the development of innovative research platforms such as Monash Live Bio-banking (MoLBi).

“Gwo is an outstanding clinician-scientist whose contributions to translational research in ovarian cancer are already nationally significant,” said Professor Clare Scott, Chair of ANZGOG.

“He brings together the skills of a collaborative investigator with deep scientific insight and compassion for women with cancer – hallmarks of what this award represents.”

“I am truly honoured to receive this award,” said Dr Ho.

“I wish to acknowledge everyone—past and present—including Clare Scott, my colleagues at Monash Health and Monash University, my family, and all the women who have contributed to and supported my research journey. Ultimately, my goal is to improve outcomes for women diagnosed with these devastating diseases.”
