Australia’s reconciliation journey with Shelley Reys AO

A big thank you to Shelley Reys AO for speaking with our employees for National Reconciliation Week.

Shelley Reys is a Djiribul woman of far north Queensland and has been involved in Australia’s quest for a reconciled nation since its formal inception in 1991. She is known for her leading work with the national apology to the Stolen Generations and the broader national reconciliation movement as the inaugural Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia. Speaking with our employees, she reflected on that journey, and where we find ourselves today, as we develop our 2023-2025 ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan.

During her engaging keynote presentation, Shelley delivered an empowering message: we’re all responsible for – and benefit from – our reconciliation journey. Shelley said it’s crucial for all Australians to understand our shared history in order to understand the importance of reconciliation.

As we commemorate National Reconciliation Week, a time of reflection and unity, we have shared our stories, cultures, and achievements, and explored how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia. We look forward to the publication of the Monash Health 2023-2025 ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan later this year.
