Starting from this week, you may notice one of the hundreds of new faces taking their first steps across multiple Monash Health sites; each one of them having completed a comprehensive induction and orientation.
In January we welcomed 124 new interns to the organisation. And in February, we welcome one of the largest cohorts of graduates, Hospital Medical Officers (HMOs) and Registrars starting and continuing their professional clinical careers in areas including nursing, midwifery, medicine and allied health at Monash Health.
The Nursing and Midwifery team in particular is excited to receive its largest intake of graduates ever this year, with 436 new graduates to join the continuing 340 graduates from the 2022 mid-year intakes. Professor Katrina Nankervis, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Executive Director, Nursing and Midwifery, also reflected on the success and popularity of the Monash Health program.
“Our February graduate program is the largest single intake for nurses and midwives each year. Monash Health has the largest graduate program in the state and is able to offer a comprehensive and diverse range of experiences for those commencing their careers.”
Nursing and Midwifery graduates will be starting across 95 clinical areas this month throughout 8 sites: Clayton, Dandenong, Casey, Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH), Kingston, Moorabbin, Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) and Residential Aged Care Services (RACS). Over 30% of these new graduates are previous employees including former Registered Undergraduate Students of Nursing (RUSONs) and Registered Undergraduate Students of Midwifery (RUSOMs) with Monash Health.
Also starting this month are about 500 HMOs, registrars and Fellows. This means we can expect over a thousand new faces coming to work across Monash Health sites from February this year.
For graduates feeling nervous about starting their clinical careers in a large organisation like Monash Health, Katrina kindly shares these words of encouragement.
“Our size provides huge diversity and opportunity. Yet every one of our graduates has an individualised experience. There is a lot of support and you’ll work closely with clinical support teams, educators and the graduate management team.”
To our commencing graduates and interns, welcome to Monash Health! We are delighted to have you join us and take your first steps in your professional clinical careers, we’re here to help and smooth the transition path as much as possible.
Monash Health would also like to congratulate the 2022 Graduate Nurses and Midwives who have successfully completed their Graduate Program. We are pleased that over 97% of completing graduates are transitioning into permanent positions within our nursing and midwifery teams. This is a great achievement and we are excited to see these completing Graduates embarking on the next stage of their careers.
