Our Victorian Public Healthcare Awards finalists – From COVID collaborators to trusted partners

Did you know that Monash Health is a key partner in the South East Metro Health Service Partnership (SEMHSP)? A collaboration that is working to improve health outcomes for patients and their families in the South East of Melbourne.

What started as a Department of Health directive for health services to work together during COVID, has now taken on a life of its own. Monash Health, Alfred Health, and Peninsula Health have led the way in building a collaborative model that includes acute, primary, and community health care partners.

Delivering care to approximately one third of the population of Victoria, SEMHSP is one of three HSPs in Melbourne and has evolved to become a collaborative and trusted platform for improving access and the quality of care to our community.

The scope of the partnership has ranged from delivering care to more than 400,000 people during COVID and providing virtual emergency consultations to almost 10,000 patients, through to the ongoing commitment to deliver more care within patient’s homes, and reform to planned surgery so that consumers have improved outcomes and a better patient journey.

To make sure that the consumer voice is heard and listened to when shaping change, SEMHSP took the lead in bringing the three metro HSPs together to collaborate on consumer research. The connections built between the three partnerships continue to grow and will deliver benefits to the entire community across Metropolitan Melbourne.

The strength of the partnership has now been recognised with the announcement that it is a finalist in the Health Service Partnership of the Year category of the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.

“Coming from strong foundations of working together, we have strengthened our collaboration to respond to the health care needs of our community and we are proud to be nominated as a finalist for the 2023 Health Service Partnership of the Year award,” said Dina Watterson, Executive Director, SEMHSP.

We look forward to the announcement of the award winner on 16 November, but this is one partnership that has already shown what collaborating can achieve.

Congratulations SEMHSP team and best of luck from all at Monash Health.
