Nurses and Midwives in our Permanent Pool receive all the benefits of permanent employment while gaining experience in diverse clinical ward areas, including the newly opened Victorian Heart Hospital.

What is the difference between Permanent Pool and Casual Bank?

Permanent Pool

  • Eligible to accrue leave.
  • Contracted to work a set number of hours every fortnight.
  • Works a rotating roster Monday to Sunday, consisting of early, late, and night shifts.
  • Receives a roster 6 weeks in advance.
  • Required to work across a minimum of 3 hospitals or care locations.
  • Nominates a group of clinical areas and is rostered shifts within those areas only.
  • Refer to the position description for further information.
  • Permanent Pool roles are currently available to Nurses and Midwives only.

Casual Bank

  • Does not accrue leave; instead, receives casual loading payment for each shift worked.
  • Can enter availability by nominating which shifts you can work.
  • Nominate work areas and will be rostered shifts within those areas.
  • Refer to the position description for further information.
  • Casual roles are available in Nursing and Midwifery, Administration and Clerical, Support Services and Allied Health.

What you need

To apply for Monash Health Bureau Permanent Pool, Nurses and Midwives must have the following:

  • At least 6 months of proven clinical experience.
  • Successful completion of a graduate program.
  • Current AHPRA registration with no conditions as a Registered Nurse, Midwife or Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Additional qualifications relevant to the area(s) you wish to work in if required.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 0.4EFT or 32 hours/4 shifts a fortnight.
  • Ability to work a rotating roster from Monday to Sunday, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to work early, late and night shifts.
  • A strong focus on safe, patient-centred care and a commitment to practising under Monash Health values, policies and procedures.
  • Well-developed communication skills that facilitate building rapid rapport with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.

  3. Go to the Monash Health Careers Hub and create an account if you still need one. If you are already a Monash Health employee, please use your employee account to lodge your application by logging in with your Monash Health employee number and password.
  4. Submit your application to the open Monash Health Bureau Nursing and Midwifery Permanent Pool job advert on the eMercury website. Your application should include the following:
    • The completed copy of your Monash Health Nursing and Midwifery Permanent Pool Application Form.
    • Testamurs of any relevant Post Graduate training qualifications.

Commencement requirements for Nurses and Midwives

Before commencing in clinical areas at Monash Health, Nursing and Midwifery candidates must satisfy the following probity checks:

  • Submit a current, valid Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) registration number, as evidence of registration as a Registered Nurse, Midwife or Enrolled Nurse, with no conditions.
  • Clear Police Check (Fit2Work) conducted within the last 3 months.
  • Submission of a valid Victorian Employee Working with Children’s Card or receipt of payment for the ordered card pending delivery.
  • Evidence of immunisations as required by Monash Health policy, including 3 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Evidence of a valid Visa allowing full working rights with no restrictions (if not an Australian citizen or permanent resident).
  • Completing a Monash Health Fit Test, achieving an appropriate seal with an N95 mask or submitting evidence from a similar test completed at another organisation that meets Monash Health requirements. The option to book a Monash Health Fit Test will be available to successful candidates if required.

Video or face-to-face interviews are used to screen candidates for Nursing and Midwifery Permanent Pool positions. All candidates are notified of the outcome of their application via email.

Onboarding with Monash Health Bureau

  • Successful applicants will receive an email with a personalised link to the Monash Health onboarding system called PeopleStreme. By accessing their PeopleStreme account through the link, the successful candidate can receive their starter package, letter of offer and employment contract.
  • After receiving their PeopleStreme email, successful candidates will be sent an additional email containing login details granting access to LATTE, the Monash Health eLearning platform.
  • All PeopleStreme documentation must be completed before progressing to the next step of the onboarding process.
  • New Monash Health employees must complete their mandatory training, including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) training, before commencing in the clinical environment.

Further commencement details will be emailed to all successful candidates after completing the required sections of PeopleStreme.
