About our Podiatry team

Podiatrists at Monash Health are provided with opportunities to grow and progress their careers through professional development and clinical supervision programs with experienced clinicians. For grade 1 and 2 podiatrists, direct supervisors are readily available for clinical support and guidance.  

There are also established pathways into research, advanced practice and clinical education roles for podiatrists at Monash Health. 

In 2020, Monash Health was awarded with a National Association Diabetes Centre’s (NADC) High Risk Foot Service Centre of Excellence, offering podiatrists the opportunity to work with patients with diabetes and complex limb threatening conditions. This service allows podiatrists to work in a multi-disciplinary team across the Emergency Department, Vascular, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease and Orthopaedics.

Our areas of Podiatry practice

Acute hospital-based care

Podiatrists at Monash Health working in acute hospital-based care, support patients with foot and ankle conditions in the hospital setting.  

This work includes:  

  • Working within the High-Risk Foot Service for inpatients and outpatients with diabetes and limb threatening conditions 
  • Pressure injury prevention  
  • Working with patients with orthopaedic conditions  
  • Treatment plans that may involve total contacts cases, orthotics, offloading and footwear plaster casts, orthotics and footwear for patients.

Sub-acute hospital based care

Monash Health’s Podiatrists working in subacute hospital-based care, work with patients at Casey and Kingston Hospitals of varying ages and medical conditions. 

This work includes:  

  • Management of foot wounds  
  • Transition to home care  
  • Falls prevention  
  • General foot care 
  • Prevention and management of pressure injuries on the foot and or ankle.

Care in the community

Various roles are offered for Monash Health Podiatrists in the community. This includes at our sites in Cranbourne, Pakenham, Springvale and Kingston, in clients’ homes and at other community venues. 

This work includes: 

  • Working with patients to gain independence in their homes 
  • General foot care  
  • High risk foot care 
  • Foot pain 
  • Wound care  
  • Falls prevention 
  • Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) at home 
  • Biomechanics  
  • Orthotic therapy 
  • NDIS care including: 
    • Working with people who have a disability that impacts their feet 
    • Orthotic intervention to assist with mobility in neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy  
    • Wheelchair and lower limb pressure injuries  
    • General foot health.

Children's

There are many opportunities at both Monash Children’s Hospital and in the Child and Family team within the community setting for podiatrists who work with children. 

This work includes:  

  • Inpatient services at Monash Children’s Hospital 
  • Orthotic management 
  • Casting  
  • Assessment  
  • Working in Monash Children’s Hospital’s toe-walking clinic 
  • Working with children who have developmental/neurological conditions to ensure they can participate in school and play 
  • Working with children in Monash Health’s Child and Family multidisciplinary GAIT clinic 
  • NDIS.

“I really enjoy the unknown of walking into work each day. It keeps it fun and exciting; I also love the people I work with and the team I have around me.” 

Tahlia Mollard first took an interest in podiatry when she and her siblings were fitted for orthotics in primary school. Now she works as a a Senior Podiatrist at Dandenong Hospital. 

“I really enjoy the science, the physics and the complexity surrounding the way people move, so I naturally gravitated towards podiatry.”
