DS Sports Topirum OSHC completes all 9 small bites in Vic Kids Eat Well

Located at Topirum Primary School in Clyde North, DS Sports Topirum OSHC joined Vic Kids Eat Well in September 2024 and powered through completing all 9 Vic Kids Eat Well small bites (menu enhancements) by March 2025. They are the first outside school hours care (OSHC) to complete every small bite in Victoria.

The OSHC’s coordinator, Janithya De Silva, has ensured the menu meets the Victorian Food and Drink Guidelines for OSHC. Janithya has gone above and beyond by booking a monthly meeting with one of our local Health Promotion Practitioners. The free meetings include menu suggestions, recipes, and resources. The OSHC has been a recipient of many Vic Kids Eat Well rewards to celebrate its achievements and encourage progress through Vic Kids Eat Well. The OSHC received rewards including supermarket vouchers, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation books, equipment, and more.

Key menu highlights by the OSHC in Vic Kids Eat Well include:

  • Refreshing the fridge – drinks like water, milk and fruit smoothies have been spotlighted.
  • Switching up the snacks – a variety of delicious and nutritious snacks are giving kids the fuel they need e.g. cheese and salad sandwiches, homemade veggie-loaded mini pizzas, homemade pita chips and dips, vegetable-based pastas, sushi, fried rice, and quesadillas.
  • Changing up the menu – kids start the day with nutritious breakfast cereals and foods, and fruit and veggies have a chance to shine in the afternoon with a daily fruit and vegetable platter and sensory activities such as fruit kebabs.
  • Putting the fun into events and outings – children lead an activity for their birthday and are offered non-food-based rewards.
