Building confidence through cricket: Tooradin’s Wellness Through Wickets success

The Wellness Through Wickets program at Tooradin Cricket Club is a standout example of how clubs can bring their Inclusion (Women and Girls) Healthy Sports Clubs game plan to life. Delivered in partnership with Monash Health and Cricket Victoria, the initiative created a welcoming and supportive entry point for women new to cricket.

The 4-week Smash Series was designed for beginners, with weeks one to 3 focused on building fundamental skills in a fun and inclusive environment. In week 4, participants put their learning into action in a friendly match, celebrating progress, teamwork and confidence.

Each session incorporated a health focus, including healthy eating, physical activity, mental wellbeing and sun protection. Participants received free resource packs and merchandise to support learning beyond the program.

Recognising its success, the program was named runner-up in the Women and Girls Initiative of the Year at Cricket Victoria’s Awards Night, highlighting its impact in creating inclusive, health-promoting environments through community sport.
