Sharing real stories: Easing into the day while the household sleeps

As a busy mum of three school-aged kids juggling work and family life, finding time for myself often feels impossible. Add a dog into the mix, and recently moving into an apartment with just a balcony, I had to rethink how we’d manage our dog’s daily routine. That’s when I decided to start a new habit: walking my dog twice a day. To make it manageable, I set a simple rule—walk for 10 minutes in one direction, then turn back.

At first, it was just about ensuring the dog got out. But soon, I realised these walks were doing something for me too. My morning walk became me time—a chance to slowly wake up and clear my mind, at my own pace. I feel refreshed and ready to ease into the day when I return home.

I can’t always manage the afternoon walk, so my husband and kids pitch in. But my morning walk? That’s my non-negotiable. It’s become as essential as drinking water or brushing my teeth. Moving before breakfast has become my secret to feeling ready for the day.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I encourage you to start small. Take 10 minutes. Walk in one direction. See where it leads you. Like I did, you might discover that a simple walk can transform your day.
