Sharing real stories: Belinda an avid walker but thought running wasn’t for her

A couple of years ago, I was inspired to begin running with the goal of running 5 km and improving my fitness. I’ve always been an avid walker but thought that running wasn’t for me. With the encouragement to give it a go by completing a 0-5km running program, I gradually built up my fitness.

Starting as something that I wanted to do for my physical health, it has quickly become something that I look forward to as part of my week and that benefits my mental health. It is a great way to de-stress, enjoy the outdoors and a reminder that we are capable of a lot more than we believe.

I’m now training for a half-marathon; I never would have thought I could run that distance. You can start slowly and gradually build up to achieve different distances. The joy is in the progress, not the end result!
