Monash Health Genetics and Fetal Diagnostic Unit (FDU) is no longer accepting referrals for counselling related to increased‑risk aneuploidy screening results identified on combined first trimester screening or second trimester maternal serum screening. Counselling will now be provided by our maternity care teams.
What this means for GPs:
If a patient has an increased aneuploidy risk (specifically for 21, 18 or 13) identified on these tests and you do not feel comfortable counselling regarding further options (including NIPT or diagnostic tests), please refer as follows:
- If they live in the Monash Health Maternity area and are not yet booked, please refer via Maternity Booking Healthlink eReferral, marked urgent.
- If already booked at Monash Health, please contact our Maternity Clinic Midwife Managers at the relevant site as per details above.
- If residing in a different area, please refer to the relevant maternity service.
