The ICU Adult NSP is a six month introduction to ICU for nurses wishing to enter the ICU environment.
The program is offered twice a year commencing in February and August. The course is run in conjunction with the Clayton, Casey and Dandenong sites.
NOTE: To be eligible to participate in the program, it is a requirement that you must apply for a position of employment within ICU at Clayton, Casey or Dandenong. Recent experience in high acuity nursing is strongly recommended.
- You will be supported through a period of orientation and supernumerary time on commencing work in ICU.
- Clinical preceptors are allocated to each participant
- 40 hours of paid study days with expectation of 100% attendance
- Assessments includes an exam, an oral presentation and clinical competencies
Content covered in the NSP includes:
- Complex Health Assessment
- Invasive and Non-Invasive ventilation
- Haemodynamic Monitoring
- Advanced Life Support
- Care of the Neurosurgical patient
Intensive Care Unit: Monash Medical Centre
The ICU at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton is a 26 bed adult unit. Specialised services include cardiothoracic’s, renal, neuroscience’s, obstetrics and surgical.
Intensive Care Unit: Dandenong Hospital
Dandenong Hospital ICU is 14 bed unit designed to accommodate the highly technical and care specific needs of critically ill and high dependency patients. A significant proportion of patients arrive from the emergency department and post op via the operating theatre.
Intensive Care Unit: Casey Hospital
Casey Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a recently commissioned 12 bed unit in the newly formed Tower, designed to accommodate the rapidly rising healthcare demand of Victoria’s South Eastern and Gippsland regions. Specialities currently include obstetrics and urology, with additional services such as a Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) opening in the near future.
