It is our goal to enable everyone in our workforce to feel valued and connected to their work by fostering a sense of purpose, belonging and meaningful contribution.

We are committed to providing safe, inclusive and supportive environments for everyone – that includes physical, psychological and cultural safety.

Health, safety and wellbeing policy

Our occupational health, safety and wellbeing policy explains the principles and measures we have in place to ensure we are able to foster a safe and health workplace.

Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Act 2015

We provide world-leading care for the community we serve, ensuring safety always remains a critical priority. The following reporting is provided to meet our obligations under the Safe Patient Care (Nurse to Patient and Midwife to Patient Ratios) Act 2015.

Our priorities and plans

Monash Health supports one of Victoria’s fastest-growing and most diverse communities.

In the South East Metro Local Health Service Network community, we serve a population of 1.2 million people, with more than 47% of people born overseas, around 15% of people identify as living with a disability, and around 8% of Victoria’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community lives in this area.

We recognise that there are many groups and communities with unique needs, which we must address to ensure we deliver equitable care.

Our diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging priority areas include:

  • Aboriginal health and employment
  • Disability
  • Gender equality
  • Cultural and linguistic diversity
  • LGBTIQA+

Aboriginal health and employment

We are committed to closing the gap and improving life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Reconciliation Action Plan

Reconciliation is everyone’s business, and we all benefit from it.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan is published on our Publications page, alongside our organisational strategy.

Aboriginal Employment Plan 2025–2028

As an outcome of our Reconciliation Action Plan, our Aboriginal Employment Plan 2025–2028 aims to strengthen and grow our First Nations workforce, while ensuring Monash Health remains a place of opportunity, growth and respect for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.

Disability

We are continuing to strengthen our commitment to provide inclusive and respectful healthcare and employment for people living with a disability.

Disability Strategy and Action Plan 2023–2027

Our Disability Strategy and Action Plan 2023–2027 provides a roadmap for Monash Health to ensure we break down barriers to healthcare access and employment for people with disability by upholding their rights, celebrating diversity, and expanding opportunities for all to belong and control their lives.

Gender Equality Audit and Progress Report

In line with the Gender Equality Act 2020, we submitted our latest Gender Equality Progress Report and Audit Data to the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector.

This report reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a fair, inclusive workplace. Key highlights include maintaining a balanced gender composition across our workforce, industry-comparable pay equity and an ongoing focus on career development and training opportunities.

Cultural and linguistic diversity

We aspire to deliver equitable care to everyone in our community, with the ambition that culturally diverse people consistently report improved experience and outcomes.

Anti-Racism Policy

We are committed to a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment – free from all forms of racism, racial discrimination, incivility, racial hatred and victimisation.

Everyone attending Monash Health is expected to treat others with dignity, courtesy and respect. Our Anti-Racism Policy reinforces our zero-tolerance approach to racism at Monash Health.

LGBTIQA+

We respect, celebrate and warmly welcome people of every gender, gender identity, intersex variation and sexual orientation.

We facilitate safe, gender-affirming care for Victorian youth and adults, informed by the gender diverse community and evidence-based practice, through the Monash Health Gender Clinic, located at the Victorian Pride Centre.

We aim to foster a unifying culture that practices LGBTIQA+ awareness and support. Every year, our employees are invited to participate in the Midsumma Pride March and IDAHOBIT Day.
