A.C.M.E.: Elevating Emergency Medicine through Collaboration and Simulation

The recently concluded Advanced Clinical Management in Emergency (A.C.M.E.) course delivered an outstanding learning experience for senior emergency clinicians, combining high-level simulation with practical skill refreshers and collaborative discussion. Over three fantastic days, participants explored the critical role of human factors and team behaviours in emergency care, while honing advanced resuscitation techniques in immersive scenarios.

Attendees praised the hands-on approach, which included airway and vascular access workshops, team-based simulations, and small-group debriefings led by an expert faculty. The teaching team – featuring renowned Physicians and Simulation experts such as Ian Summers, Sarah Mikhail, Nathalie Gomes and Dino Druda – shared invaluable insights and practical tips drawn from years of frontline experience.

One of the highlights was the open, collegial atmosphere. With no formal assessments, participants were encouraged to share knowledge, challenge ideas, and learn from each other in a supportive environment. “The fantastic sim environment was an incredible gift. I appreciated having both positive feedback and constructive- we work “alone” as senior clinicians so much of the time and it is a rare opportunity to receive meaningful and appropriate feedback. The conversational manner to the debriefs and discussions provided a nice opportunity to learn from the experience of others. Thank you” said one attendee.

Accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM), A.C.M.E. attracts Fellows, advanced trainees, and senior medical officers from across Australia and New Zealand. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling it a “must-attend” event for those leading emergency care teams.

Congratulations to all who participated in making our final A.C.M.E. 2025 a success – for 2026 opportunities, please view available dates and in order to access additional simulation education opportunities, navigate to Monash Simulation.
