NEW** MET Response at Monash Health (MR@MH) Course

The Monash Simulation Team have recently developed and conducted an exciting new course for the hospital academic year of 2025, involving interprofessional and interdisciplinary teams providing critical care to Monash Health patients, as a result of a MET call.

The MR@MH Course is unique, born out of optimising patient safety for our Monash Health patients. The course was developed after careful analysis of MET data, focusing on the top five serious adverse patient safety event (SAPSE) domains of Monash Health, these being escalation, senior clinician involvement, cognitive errors, communication and following procedures.

The course provides educational opportunities for Intensive Care Liaison Nurses, Intensive Care rotating Registrars coming from critical care areas of Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia and General Medicine with involvement of General Medical Registrars who are responsible for attending MET calls.

Throughout the course, participants take part in simulated scenarios and interactive workshops, providing hands on experiential learning opportunities, covering airway, breathing and circulatory support, including initiation of supplemental ventilation strategies, optimisation of cardiac support involving defibrillation and provision of vasoactive medications. Furthermore, the opportunity for optimisation of team performance and exploration of crisis resource management during MET responses is detailed throughout the course, with particular focus on integrating the provision of critical care for patients, outside traditional critical care environments within our Monash Health sites.

The Monash Simulation team thrives on developing targeted courses like the MR@MH for specific learner groups, to improve the care that can be provided to our patients.
