The bed-based Speech Pathology department has collaborated with Physiotherapy colleagues and the fantastic Monash Simulation team to deliver the first multidisciplinary (MDT) tracheostomy education session on 12th June 2024. Speech Pathologists currently credentialed and undergoing their tracheostomy competency across the network are offered the opportunity to participate in the education program. Following our first session, Speech Pathology learners self-reported that the education session was valuable with increased levels of confidence to manage tracheostomy care. They also reported that the session contributed to strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration with Physiotherapy colleagues:
“It was fantastic. Love that it was multidisciplinary with the Physios there. “
We are proud to continue this journey of education with Physiotherapy and Monash Simulation. We aim to foster development and maintenance of Speech Pathologists’ skills and enthusiasm in this complex area of clinical practice.
