Monash Simulation were invited to run a one day airway workshop for Emergency Physicians as part of ACEM’s Victorian Winter conference at RACV Club in Healesville.
The team of medical and nursing staff from Monash Simulation brought with them three car loads of high technology mannequins, airway heads and equipment, and were supported by airway equipment manufacturer Glidescope. This was the first time that our mannequins had been utilised outside the centre, and essential practise for us learning how we would best support rural centres with courses run in their locations.
The one-day course was taught by a mixture of airway providers from anaesthetics (Nick Chrimes) ICU (Kerrianne Huynh) and Ian Summers with an ED perspective. The format was heavily based on the Vortex designed by Nick and the ED physicians valued hearing his insights into its use as a cognitive aid, the simulation scenarios and in particular the training on hyper-angulated blade video-laryngoscopy.
