‘We are pleased to welcome our first patients to the new Cranbourne Community Hospital,’ said Stuart Cavill, Divisional Director Hospitals and Clinics. ‘As with any project of this magnitude, there are many across the organisation that have contributed. From the Capital team that has worked for years with a range of stakeholders in government and our internal teams, to the Project team who has spent years managing the project overall and ensuring we keep to our timelines and to the Operations team that will now run the hospital. It takes an enormous amount of effort and hard work to make a service like this a reality.’
The hospital’s opening is the culmination of years of planning, consultation and construction, as well as input from healthcare professionals, community representatives, and various stakeholders. The new facility has been designed with accessibility and comfort in mind, featuring spacious waiting areas, up-to-date clinical spaces, and amenities tailored to both patients and employees.
Services will be opened in stages, ensuring that each clinical and support team has adequate time to settle in, familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and ensure that patient care remains the top priority during the transition.
The unique external design of the building is a departure from the traditional, clinical appearance of most hospitals. It has been influenced by the cultural heritage of the area, particularly the connection to the Bunurong peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the land. The building’s architects, HDR, developed a design that reflects a respect for the Bunurong peoples’ culture and history, incorporating elements that are meaningful to the community and the land itself.
An important interior feature is the use of artwork created by proud Yorta Yorta and Gunnai artist, Dixon Patten. His piece, originally commissioned for Monash Health’s Reconciliation Action Plan, is prominent in the new hospital’s wall decals, as you can see from the image of the atrium.
The recruitment drive for Cranbourne Community Hospital has attracted strong interest from both Monash Health employees and the broader community. Many roles have already been filled, bringing fresh talent from people outside the organisation, balanced with the steady, experienced hands of current Monash Health employees. Joanne McCann has been appointed as the new Operations Director and brings six years of experience at Monash Health. She previously held the role of Director Clinical Operations Critical Care Services. Joining Joanne is Jasmine Zeini, the new Site Coordinator who has transitioned from Monash Health Imaging and having spent a decade with the organisation.
