Moorabbin Hospital decks the wards with festive spirit

Moorabbin Hospital has once again been the scene of a fierce, yet friendly, Christmas decoration competition.

Wards engaged in a festive battle, vying for the crown of best decorators as judged by the Oakleigh Fire Rescue Victoria station.

“The annual Christmas decoration competition is always a wonderful event, inspiring creativity from our teams which makes Moorabbin a special place to be,” said Zoe Devenish, General Manager of Cancer Services and Moorabbin Hospital.

“For our patients and visitors, they really appreciate our people bringing the festive spirit to them while in our care.”

Congratulations to the Dialysis Ward, the new festive decoration champions. Honourable mentions to Nursing Education and Oncology Administration who were runners up.

Firefighter Mitch Deane, who helped judge the competition with his colleagues, was highly impressed.

“Hospitals, they’re not always the most enjoyable places to be. But when you’ve got staff that are that interested in making the environment as welcoming and as inviting as possible – it was just an absolute joy to walk around,” Mitch said.

“The Dialysis Unit got it across the line. I think it was the fact that they had all the staff involved, but they also included their patients in their decorations. It added that very personal touch to it. And they also had their little elf on dialysis as well, which was awesome to see.”

Thanks to the efforts of the wards, Moorabbin Hospital feels more like Santa’s workshop than a hospital: much to the delight of patients, visitors, and our teams.
