Monash Health is proud to announce that its gynaecological cancer clinical trials team has been named the Outstanding Clinical Trial Site by the peak body for gynaecological cancer research across Australia and New Zealand, the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG).

This prestigious award was handed out at the ANZGOG 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting on the Gold Coast. It recognises clinical trial sites that demonstrate exceptional standards in research delivery, patient safety, and scientific contribution.

For Monash Health, it is an affirmation of our long-standing commitment to providing patients with access to the most innovative treatments available, through research conducted with rigour, care, and compassion.

‘At Monash Health, our commitment is to reimagine care so people today and, in the future, in Victoria and across the globe, can live their healthiest lives,’ said Chief Executive Officer Eugine Yafele.

‘Congratulations to the gynaecological oncology team at Monash Health on your deserved recognition for the outstanding care and innovation you provide each and every day.’

About the award

ANZGOG coordinates and governs gynaecological cancer clinical trials, spanning ovarian, uterine, cervical, and other gynaecological cancers, at sites across Australia and New Zealand.

Its annual Outstanding Clinical Trial Site award is one of the highest honours a research institution can receive in this field, acknowledging sites leading the way in advancing outcomes for women with gynaecological cancers.

The award was accepted on behalf of the Monash Health team by Associate Professor Kate Webber, medical oncologist and stream lead for gynaecological cancer, and Hakan Tarakci, gynaecological trials team lead and study co-ordinator at the ANZGOG ceremony, with medical oncologist Associate Professor Sophia Frentzas and clinical trials assistant Amber Bury also present.

Other team members not present are medical oncologist Dr Gwo-Yaw Ho, McGrath Cancer Care Nurse Genevieve Kesegic and study coordinators Daniel Shokouhi, Debbie Gaitanis and Erin Donaghy.

‘Our team was recognised for our culture of inclusivity and patient advocacy to reduce barriers to trial access for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds,’ said Associate Professor Webber.

‘We strive to ensure that their voices are heard in the development of new treatments and to offer access to cutting-edge cancer treatment for all patients, regardless of background.

‘Receiving this award affirms what we strive for every day, to give our patients access to the best and most innovative treatments available, through research conducted to the very highest standard.’

Research that changes lives

Clinical trials are at the heart of Monash Health’s mission as a leading academic health service.

Through our participation in ANZGOG trials, our patients gain access to therapies that may not yet be widely available, and our findings contribute to the evidence base that shapes cancer care for women across the region and around the world.

The work of our gynaecological cancer trials team connects the science of tomorrow with the patients of today.

‘This achievement by the gynaecological stream in Monash Health’s Oncology Department is a recognition of the passion, commitment and hard work of a multi-disciplinary team,’ said Director of Oncology, Associate Professor Zee Wan Wong.

Our commitment

This recognition reflects the dedication of an entire multidisciplinary team of oncologists, study management specialists, research nurses, coordinators, and support staff, who work together to deliver world-class research without ever losing sight of the individual patient at the centre of every trial.

We congratulate our gynaecological cancer team and thank every patient who has trusted Monash Health to be part of their care.
