Why is Monash Health sending me a text message?

Monash Health is contacting patients who are waiting for a first appointment with a specialist in General Surgery. You were referred to our service and have not yet been seen by our General Surgery team.

Your referral was assessed as non-urgent, and you have been waiting for some time (more than 12 months) for your first appointment.

The address recorded on your file is close to locations where Eastern Health provide care and operate from. You have the option to obtain care sooner and closer to home.

Why can Eastern Health see me sooner?

In 2024, Eastern Health opened a dedicated surgical centre that can provide care to patients who require General Surgery.

With patient approval, a referral can be transferred to another health service.

At this time, Eastern Health is able to provide care to patients who are waiting for care at another health service, to help improve access to care.

When will my first appointment with Eastern Health be booked?

Your first appointment will be booked within 3 months.

Where will I be seen by Eastern Health?

The first appointment will be at Blackburn Public Surgical Centre, 198 Canterbury Road, Blackburn 3130.

Parking is free on site and easy to access.

Will I lose my position in the queue for General Surgery at Monash Health?

If you choose to take the offer of earlier care at Eastern Health, your General Surgery referral at Monash Health will be closed.

If I choose to stay and wait for my first appointment with General Surgery at Monash Health, how long will I wait?

Waiting time is variable – our current estimate of the waiting time for a first appointment for the majority of patients assessed as non-urgent is in excess of 3 years.

Will someone tell my GP/local doctor?

If you confirm you are happy for your referral to be transferred to Eastern Health, and after you have had your first appointment, notification will be sent to your GP about your care.

I no longer need General Surgery assessment, my issue has resolved, or I have had care provided somewhere else. Could you please remove me from your waiting list?
