Graduate Certificate of Specialist Nursing Practice (Paediatric)

Monash Children’s Hospital is a network of paediatric healthcare services across three sites – our main campus in Clayton (co-located with Monash Medical Centre) and satellite sites at Dandenong and Casey Hospitals. We care for more than 100,000 children every year. Monash Children’s Hospital is also the Victorian Referral Centre for many low-volume and high-complex cases. Our services are linked to an adult service, allowing us to provide transition-of-care as children grow older and move to an adult service.

We deliver specialised, innovative, family-centred care and believe strongly in putting patients first and striving for exceptional care and outstanding outcomes.

Course Synopsis

The Graduate Certificate of Specialist Nursing Practice is a post-graduate program for Registered Nurses wishing to undertake specialist paediatric training. The course combines theory and clinical practice components, with the aim of developing students as life-long learners with problem solving, communication, leadership and research skills. Successful graduates are prepared for practice as specialist paediatric nurses within multidisciplinary healthcare teams and the general paediatric ward environment.

Selection Criteria

• Minimum 2 years of acute graduate paediatric nursing experience (full time equivalent)
• Demonstrated commitment to practice advancement and learning
• Must meet admission requirements for postgraduate Nursing study at Monash or Melbourne universities

*Internal applicants – require a letter of recommendation from a Paediatric Nurse Manager, including agreement to employ for a minimum of 12 months 

*External applicants – are welcome to apply, with acceptance based on meeting the selection criteria and available EFT to employ for 12 months
