Monash Simulation has further cemented itself as a centre of simulation excellence, welcoming international delegates to the Monash Simulation Centre at the Moorabbin Campus of Monash Health over August and September 2025.
With the official opening of the Southern Health Care Network (now Monash Health) Simulation Centre on 23 September 1997, the Centre has been providing continual simulation based educational experiences to multidisciplinary teams from Monash Health and to external participants for some time now.
The expertise of the Monash Simulation team mean that faculty are regularly approached for delivering key note speaking engagements, conference presentations and facilitation of debriefing sessions from various stakeholders across industries.
Recently, a delegation from Auckland University of Technology comprising Professor Damon Salesa, Vice Chancellor, Professor Brett Cowan, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean, Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, Associate Professor Rachel Macdiarmid, Head of School of Nursing and Jenni Carden, Strategic Project Manager, visited Monash Simulation to discuss development of a simulation based education program at Auckland University of Technology. Together, we discussed how to implement best practice simulation education opportunities for their upcoming purpose built simulation education centre. The delegation toured the Monash Simulation Centre and learnt from our experiences of centre development, deployment of the latest in simulation based education technology and how the ethos of Monash Simulation plays a key role in setting up psychological safety for a successful simulation education program. We look forward to discovering how the delegation progress forward in the delivery of their simulation education program.
Additionally, we welcomed a delegation from the Indonesian Research Advisory Panel, compromising Professors of Nursing at Universitas Indonesia and members of the Australian-Indonesian Centre, who, in September toured the centre. The delegation were treated to an example of how the Monash Simulation faculty structure an educational session, detailing a welcome, an example of a workshop to ensure scaffolding of education. The delegation then moved into a high fidelity simulation space where the delegation were thrilled to meet one of our Laerdal simulators, one of the cornerstones of our immersive simulation education program. We also discussed the importance of crisis resource management and teamwork for participants as a key educational focus here at Monash Simulation. The delegation expressed that they were keen to implement some of our discussion points into their educational programs.
International delegations visiting the Simulation Centre emphasise the reach of Monash Simulation. Monash Simulation has implemented many simulation based education courses that appeal to international participants. Courses such as the Advanced and Complex Medical Emergencies (ACME) Â and the Toxicological Course and newly developed Monash Airway Course for Intensivists (MAC4Intensivists) are examples of such courses that are also accredited for college continuing professional development.
