Emergency Trauma Management (ETM) facilitators course

In July of this year, we initiated a two-day ETM facilitator’s course at Monash Simulation Centre. Nine ETM facilitators from various parts of Australia convened for a two-day session to pilot a new facilitator’s program aimed at enhancing and refining their facilitation skills. The objective was to optimise outcomes for participants in the ETM course.

This highly interactive course involved participants engaging in simulations and procedures with confederate participants. They navigated through various challenging situations, followed by debriefs and shared insights from each other’s practical experiences.

Here is some feedback from participants on that course:

“One of the best courses I have attended, finely weighted and adjusted as it ran to keep the course both immediately relevant and applicable while keeping within overall timeframes. I was learning from both the material presented and the techniques demonstrated by the faculty” – anonymous.

This course was perfectly designed for the type of debriefing performed at ETM. The content was tailored to the ETM context, and provided practical insights and strategies that could be immediately applied to the rapid fire, low fidelity simulation we deliver at ETM. The inclusion of multiple expert tips and tricks was a real highlight – with course faculty able to blend theory and real-world application in a pragmatic, learner centred fashion. Since completing this course, I’ve been able to put some of the suggestions I received into practice whilst instructing on a course, and this has made me enjoy the teaching aspects of the course even more!” – Keith Amarakone MBChB, BSc, MSc, MA, MMedEd, FACEM (PEM) AFRACMA).
